Guanajuato/Gto News

Health protection is a priority for the People’s Government; therefore, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato has reinforced early detection activities to identify diseases before they represent complications for the population.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, emphasized that the health personnel in the medical units have an important mission:

  • To identify diseases early, before they can complicate people’s health or cause lasting damage

Alcala explained that this work is carried out mainly through two main pillars:

  • Prevention and health promotion

Both are actions that allow for close attention to the population and encourage greater participation in the care of their well-being.

Therefore, during the current administration, more than three million screenings related to chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, overweight and obesity, have been carried out as part of a permanent strategy to protect health and improve quality of life.

In addition, as part of the screening efforts targeting older adults, more than 600,000 tests have been carried out to promptly identify risk factors and diseases that require medical follow-up, specialized care, or lifestyle modifications.

These prevention actions aim to intentionally identify diseases through tests, screenings and detections, even before complications appear, promoting early diagnosis and providing timely care to reduce risks and consequences.

These activities are developed throughout the life cycle, accompanying people from pregnancy, birth and childhood, to adolescence and adulthood, with interventions tailored to each stage and aimed at healthy aging.

In this sense, health personnel maintain a permanent search for diseases and risk factors according to age, in addition to providing guidance so that each person can make informed decisions and actively participate in their health care.

The second pillar, which corresponds to health promotion, involves workshops, talks, and communication strategies that provide information to the population about healthy habits, actions that seek to strengthen behaviors that contribute to preventing diseases and improving the quality of life.

And as part of this comprehensive strategy, during the current administration more than 105,000 metabolic screenings have been carried out on newborns, performed during the first days of life, to identify diseases in a timely manner and providing care that allows protecting their development and well-being.
