In a strategic move to ensure public safety, Purisima del Rincon will be divided into three monitoring sectors as part of the “San Cristobal Operation” for the Holy Week and Easter holiday period.
Civil Protection has officially entered its intensive recommendation phase, focusing on public guidance to minimize the risk of accidents.
Edgar Fernando Cisneros Hernandez, Coordinator of Civil Protection, reported that warning signs have already been installed near dams and reservoirs. These signs highlight the life-threatening risks of entering water bodies not intended for swimming and remind the public to contact 911 in case of any emergency.
Emergency Response and Regional Coordination
Following a meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Council, it was announced that local emergency teams will be bolstered by State Civil Protection assets, including additional ambulances. In extreme scenarios, emergency helicopter services will be also available.
To manage the high density of crowds during the traditional “La Judea” celebrations, specific signage will be placed to identify key medical and service points, particularly along Madero, Mojica, and Manuel Doblado streets.
Sector breakdown and high-risk zones
The municipality is being divided into North, Central, and South sectors to provide faster response times:
- North Sector: Home to approximately 30 reservoirs (bordos)
- South Sector: Contains over 60 reservoirs
- Warning: Authorities emphasize that these bodies of water are highly dangerous due to unstable depths and are strictly off-limits for swimming
Key Safety Restrictions (March 27 – April 12)
While the Holy Week Operation officially runs through April 12, surveillance began early to prevent incidents.
Safety Advisory: Visitors are encouraged to enjoy picnics and outdoor activities but are strictly prohibited from entering the water at the following locations:
- Dams: El Barrial, Canada de Negros, and Jalpa de Canovas
- Rivers: All rivers connected to these dams
- Reservoirs: Guevara, Eje Metropolitano, Santa Efigenia, Santa Eduwiges, and El Toyi
Deployment Logistics
- Downtown: Monitored via ATVs and bicycles for high mobility
- North & South: Increased patrols in pickup trucks near popular water parks (Los Girasoles, El Manso, Palapa Viznaga, Granja Cortes).
- Camping Areas: Dual-purpose motorcycles will be deployed to reach families camping near the Santa Efigenia, Santa Eduwiges, and Canada de Negros areas
