The Minor Devil, Lalo Torres, bids farewell to his long career representing the Devil. Compatriots and visitors from various regions arrived to experience the Purisima tradition.

Purisima del Rincon/Gto News

Purisima del Rincon is experiencing every facet of Holy Week. As part of La Judea’s biblical narrative, the community gathered this Good Friday morning to witness the representation of the sentencing and crucifixion of Jesus.

Families, friends, and visitors moved together through the Via Crucis, observing each of the stations Jesus endured. Finally, during the crucifixion under the intense sun, the crowd remained deeply moved by the narration of Presbyter Felipe de Jesus Frausto Estrada.

Prior to the live broadcast of the event, Eduardo Torres, who portrayed the Minor Devil for 48 consecutive years, took the stage to announce that this year marks his retirement from the chases under the scorching sun. He thanked the community for allowing him to be part of La Judea, noting that he also spent five years of his childhood in the “Torito” tradition, another pillar of the traditions of this city. Now, he will dedicate himself to training children to become future “Diablos Mayores”.

With more than 300 actors on scene, the atmosphere was set to begin the chase after Judas, who represents sin. Everyone tried to reach him as a symbolic plea for better times for the community.

The crowd remained expectant in the City Center, including visitors from places like Ixtlahuaca in the State of Mexico, as well as migrants from Oxnard and other parts of California. They joined local residents and those who returned home for a visit, along with travelers from different parts of Guanajuato and across the country.

After enjoying the tradition, attendees supported the 250 local vendors offering food and various products. This sector of the celebration saw a significant increase in commerce, growing from 160 original stalls to a total of 250.
