As part of the Guanajuato SUMA strategy, A New Direction for Our People, promoted by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the State Institute of Training (IECA), in coordination with BJXMODA, strengthens the talent and professionalization of those who participate in the fashion industry, by recognizing the winners of the third edition of MODA IN.

The program aims to translate training into opportunities for development, entrepreneurship, and industry engagement, while also promoting the consumption of local suppliers and strengthening the fashion value chain in Guanajuato.

After completing the training stage and the selection process the result is:

  • Marisol Hernandez, from Leon, was recognized as MODA IN 3 Designer
  • Patricia Velazquez, from Salamanca, is the MODA IN 3 Entrepreneur
  • Monica Ivonne Luna, from Leon, is the MODA IN 3 Seamstress

The three were selected after presenting their projects to a jury made up of representatives of the Secretary of Economy, IECA, Secretary of Tourism and Identity, BJXMODA, COFOCE, Juventudes Gente, Guanajuato Fashion Cluster, Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato, Avantar Creativo and Sanper Mexico.

The process considered criteria such as conceptualization, visual impact, commercial value, use of local suppliers, safety and projection of the participants, as well as the preparation and presentation of their projects, to identify talent with potential to develop professionally and strengthen the industry.

“All the products, outfits, and projects presented are unique, and each one has unparalleled value. There had to be winners in this competition, but that doesn’t mean that the other proposals are not good. MODA IN has evolved through its different stages, and this year we have three categories, expanding the opportunities to recognize Guanajuato’s talent,” said Cristobal Garcia Esteves, Director of Communication and Outreach at IECA.

The winners will have a tour that includes municipalities such as Leon, Irapuato, Acambaro, Coroneo, Moroleon, Purisima del Rincon, San Francisco del Rincon, San Jose Iturbide and Yuriria, where they will be able to identify materials, techniques and products that they can later incorporate into their projects.

IECA works to strengthen the link between creative talent and the companies and people that participate in the production chain of fashion, promoting the consumption of local products and generating new opportunities for designers, seamstresses, artisans and entrepreneurs.

Marisol Hernandez expressed her gratitude for the recognition and noted the support she received during the process: “Thank you so much for this decision, I am very excited and I want to thank the people who helped me in this project, including the teachers at IECA.”

Patricia Velazquez said: “Throughout this month MODA IN planted a seed in me.”

Monica Ivonne Luna highlighted the effort made during the process and said she felt proud of the results obtained.

The winners will receive support to continue developing their projects and will have access to connections with suppliers and specialists who are part of the fashion industry.
