The city once again welcomes the Leon Veterinary Congress, an event that has become a success story for the meetings industry in Guanajuato, and a demonstration of the State’s potential to compete for major events in Mexico and the world, bringing together more than 25,000 attendees.

In coordination with the Guanajuato SUMA strategy of the People’s Government of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) promotes meetings such as the Veterinary Congress, so that veterinarians, specialists, academics, businessmen, exhibitors and professionals of the sector can converge in the same space.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, highlighted that the permanence and growth of this Congress demonstrates how a long-term vision, accompanied by talent, continuity and a prepared destination, can become an engine of economic development for an entire city and for the State.

“Today we are not inaugurating just another congress. We are celebrating a success story that began in Leon and now has a global reach,” the Secretary said, acknowledging Cesar Morales Torres, president of the Leon Veterinary Congress, for trusting in Guanajuato and the State’s ability to organize large-scale events.

Robles insisted that the Veterinary Congress of Leon has become an international benchmark and a platform for knowledge, innovation, business and development, which year after year attracts visitors and strengthens the tourist and economic activity of Leon.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity recalled the importance of tourism in Guanajuato, where it is already the third largest economic force, in addition to representing 8.1 percent of the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generating more than 227,000 jobs.

It was also noted that Guanajuato currently ranks fifth nationally in the meetings industry, a segment that contributes around 3.5 percent of the state’s GDP and represents 11.99 percent of visits to Guanajuato, with more than 2 million 854 thousand visitors and an annual economic impact exceeding 6 billion 847 million pesos.

“When 25,000 people attend a congress like this, it’s not just a venue that fills up. Hotels and restaurants fill up, transportation is used, suppliers are hired, local products are consumed, jobs are created, business is done, and Guanajuato is showcased to thousands of people who then become ambassadors for our destination,” said Robles.

“We want those who generate knowledge to meet here. We want decision-makers to come to Guanajuato. We want those looking for investment opportunities to get to know Guanajuato. And we want those who organize major events to know that here we have infrastructure, connectivity, talent, experience, and, above all, a great capacity to make things happen,” said the Secretary.

Robles Leon emphasized that the value of meetings tourism transcends the duration of each event, as conferences generate knowledge, professional relationships, business, alliances and even new investment opportunities.

“That is the true value of meetings tourism: bringing people together today to create opportunities that will last tomorrow,” said Robles.

In the Government of the People and the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, we reaffirm our commitment to support the growth of the Leon Veterinary Congress to continue strengthening the Meetings Tourism strategy and further positioning Leon and Guanajuato as competitive venues for major events in Mexico and around the world.
