Governor Libia Dennise called to honor the legacy of those who gave freedom to Mexico and maintain unity to build a better future

“Today Guanajuato calls for national unity, to continue being that beacon of light in the fight for justice and freedoms,” said the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, as she led the Civic Ceremony commemorating the 216th Anniversary of the Beginning of the Independence of Mexico.
From the Allende Garden, in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, the Governor emphasized that commemorating this date means recognizing the path traveled by women and men who fought for a free Mexico, but also assuming the responsibility that corresponds to current generations to preserve freedoms, strengthen unity and build better opportunities for those who come after.
“We are living through a very special moment in our national history. One of the challenges we face as a society is to remember where we come from, but above all, to consider the challenges and opportunities we have for the future,” said the Head of the Executive Branch.
Libia Dennise recalled that Guanajuato played a key role in the events that led to Mexico’s independence. San Miguel el Grande was one of the main centers of the conspiracy and the birthplace of Ignacio Allende and Juan Aldama; moreover, on September 16, 1810, it received the insurgent contingent that had departed from Dolores and passed through Atotonilco, where Miguel Hidalgo adopted the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe as his banner.
The Governor also acknowledged the women who participated in the independence struggle and whose names have not always occupied the same space in historical memory.
“Today we also have a commitment to our daughters and sons, who are heirs to this historic land. Guanajuato has been a protagonist throughout national history, and today Guanajuato will continue to live up to our history and our great legacy,” said the Governor of Guanajuato.
The Mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Mauricio Trejo Pureco, highlighted the historical importance of this city, the land of General Ignacio Allende, and called for unity to prevail over differing opinions in order to continue building a better Municipality, State, and Country.
Trejo also recalled that, after the passage of the insurgent movement, on September 17, 1810, a Governing Board was established in San Miguel, recognized in the civic memory of San Miguel as the first City Council of independent Mexico.
The Governor witnessed the Civic-Military Parade for the 216th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s Independence, which brought together students, security corporations, Armed Forces, emergency services, civil associations and charros, in a procession that kept alive the historical memory and pride in patriotic traditions.
“From this wonderful land, which is the pride of Guanajuato, from this land that commits us to continue working together: Long live San Miguel de Allende! Long live Guanajuato! Long live Mexico!” the Governor concluded.
