The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato has collected 15,058 units of blood during the first five months of 2026, a figure that represents 39 percent of the programmed annual goal.
Gabriel Cortes Alcala, Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, pointed out that this achievement is the result of the solidarity of thousands of Guanajuatenses who have responded to the call for voluntary and replacement donation, contributing to save lives and strengthening the response capacity of hospitals to emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments and other medical needs that require blood transfusions.
The State Center for Transfusion Medicine (CEMT) operates under a regionalization model of blood services, which allows for efficient and coordinated care throughout the State.
This network is made up of two blood banks, located in the State Center for Transfusion Medicine and in the General Hospital of Celaya, in addition to 16 collection centers strategically distributed in the general hospitals of:
- Irapuato, Silao, Guanajuato, Salamanca, Salvatierra, Dolores Hidalgo, Acambaro, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Santiago, Uriangato, Penjamo and San Jose Iturbide
- Besides the maternity hospitals of Celaya, Irapuato and San Luis de la Paz
- And the Bajio Regional High Specialty Hospital
These centers collect units of whole blood, which are then transferred to the State Center for Transfusion Medicine for processing, analysis, and separation of blood components.
The CEMT blood bank concentrates the largest blood reserves in the State and is responsible for distributing them according to the needs of the hospital units of the Guanajuato State Public Health Institute (ISAPEG).

During 2024 a total of 38,099 units of blood were collected, while in 2025 the figure rose to 38,277 units, donations that guarantee the timely supply of blood components in the clinics of the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato.
