Guanajuato continues to make progress in strengthening its economy and creating better conditions for the development of its residents.
The 2026 results of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) place the State among the top 10 nationally in various indicators of innovation, the economy, and the labor market.
For Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, strengthening the economy means creating conditions for the well-being of Guanajuatense families. Under this vision, the Secretary of Economy, led by Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, is promoting an economic policy that integrates investment, employment, talent, and business development through Guanajuato SUMA.
The IMCO results add to the indicators that Guanajuato has been developing, reflecting the strength of its economy. Currently, the State has attracted over $6.556 billion in investment, while job placement programs have helped 78,000 people find employment. Furthermore, Guanajuato ranks as the fifth strongest economy in Mexico.
In the area of Innovation and the Economy, based on IMCO’s findings, Guanajuato stands out particularly for its diversification and its capacity to participate in international markets. The state ranks 6th nationally in economic diversification and 8th in exports off products, indicators that demonstrate the scope of its productive activity and the importance of continuing to strengthen innovation and competitiveness.
Regarding the labor market, Guanajuato ranks 6th nationally in the growth of economic units with more than 50 employees. It also ranks 9th in wage inequality, with a Gini coefficient of 0.33, an indicator that measures how equitably income is distributed among workers; the closer the value is to zero, the lower the inequality. In Guanajuato’s case, this result places it among the states with the most balanced wage distribution nationwide.
These results strengthen the vision of an economic policy that seeks to ensure that growth translates into opportunities for people, more competitive companies, and a labor market with better conditions.
