Because protecting the environment is caring for what you love, the People’s Government, through the Environmental and Territorial Planning Attorney’s Office of the State of Guanajuato, held the virtual talk “Monarch Journey 2026” by biologist Jorge Gustavo Zaragoza Rosales.

Jorge Gustavo thanked the participants for their commitment and interest in the task of conserving monarch butterflies in their transit through our State.

Similarly, Zaragoza said that one of the actions led by the people’s governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, is the care of our protected natural areas so that they continue to be a space where the monarch butterfly can continue its life cycle.

“Monarch butterflies are a true symbol of life, resilience, beauty, and the connection of our ecosystems. And this event is a reminder that protecting our natural environment is not only a duty, but an act of love for what surrounds us,” said Zaragoza.

Gustavo Zaragoza said that Guanajuato is one of the twelve states used by this insect during its migration through Mexico.

The Offficial said that the Sierra de los Agustinos Protected Natural Area is a very important step for the migration of the monarch butterfly since this site located in the municipalities of Acambaro, Jerecuaro and Tarimoro is a climatic refuge and the trees located in the area protect them from strong winds, making their life longer.

The biologist explained that the Sierra de los Agustinos area is a space where butterflies rest and, through their flight, form a funnel to head towards the State of Mexico where they spend most of their time in Mexico.

Zaragoza also invited citizens to monitor the monarch butterfly by taking actions such as observing the garden to record its passage, taking photographs or videos with a cell phone or camera, and said that the period of greatest sighting is between September 24 and November 30.

The Offficial said that the monarch butterfly is an endangered species and invited everyone to help ensure its survival, as it provides environmental, economic, and tourism benefits, among other.
