A total of 200 girls participated in the first official tryout convened by Club Leon and the Guanajuato State Sports Commission (CODE), with the purpose of finding new talents to strengthen their women’s youth teams.
This first call was answered by young people from Silao, Celaya and Leon, although applicants from Jalisco and Aguascalientes also arrived, corresponding to the 2009 to 2011 and 2012 to 2014 categories.
The tryouts took place on the courts of the Macrocentro Deportivo Leon 1, where the young women participated in different tests that allowed the scouts to observe their talent on the court, their endurance limits, their mastery of the game, and their willingness to compete against other athletes.
“The goal is to attract local talent. We’ve seen girls who have already debuted in the Liga MX Femenil first division who were born in this city, and that’s very important,” said Gabriel Rodriguez, Communications Coordinator for Club Leon.
Rodriguez said that after this first filter, a group will be selected that will have tryouts at La Esmeralda, the official headquarters for the preparations of the Club Leon teams, “we will have to narrow down the group to guide them towards our Under 17 and Under 19 teams.”
Club Leon will hold a second tryout under this same scheme, which will be based in the municipality of Irapuato and will give more young people the opportunity to compete for a spot in its Basic Forces.
