Leon is the first destination in Mexico to earn the Destination Certification in the Global Competitiveness Certificate program by PCO Meetings, which accredits the work of professionalization and strengthening of the value chain of the Meetings Industry

Leon became the first destination in Mexico to obtain Destination Certification within the Global Competitiveness Certificate (CCG) program by PCO Meetings, a recognition that distinguishes the level of competitiveness and professionalization achieved by the members in the Meetings Industry value chain.
Under the vision of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) recognizes the importance of continuing to strengthen strategic tourism segments for Guanajuato, joining forces with destinations and service providers.
Through the Guanajuato SUMA strategy, coordination and professionalization of the sector are being promoted to enhance the competitiveness of our destinations, generate new business opportunities, and solidify the State’s position as a national leader in the Meetings Industry.
The Leon Destination Certification Declaration Ceremony was held in the Queretaro Pavilion, as part of the 2026 National Congress of the Meetings Industry (CNIR), one of the most important meetings in Mexico; with the presence of representatives of PCO Meetings Mexico, members of the CCG Community, authorities from Leon and Guanajuato, representatives of sector associations, hotel chains and special guests.
The Global Competitiveness Certificate is a model developed by PCO Meetings Mexico that recognizes companies and destinations that comply with good practices aligned with the standards that professional congress organizers and meeting planners consider relevant for selecting, contracting and operating an event.
The process includes a specialized evaluation and the support of consultants. Today, the meetings industry must be recognized for its real impact, as it represents more than 443 billion pesos per year, equivalent to 1.84% of the national Gross Domestic Product.
Obtaining the destination certification is the result of the joint work of companies and institutions that make up the value chain of Leon, including hotels, DMCs, Meeting Planners, specialized service providers, Poliforum Leon as the venue and the City Council of Leon as the promoting institution.
The recognition does not correspond solely to a company or venue, but to the tourism and meetings ecosystem of the destination, which has worked steadily on professionalization and the adoption of best practices.
Leon, along with the certified companies and institutions that make up its value chain, joins the CCG Elite Community, strengthening its positioning before professional organizers of congresses, conventions, incentives and corporate events.
This certification represents an endorsement of the work done by Leon to enhance its capabilities as a meetings destination and strengthen aspects such as governance, reputation, competitiveness and destination management.
In tourism terms, this recognition provides greater certainty to those seeking venues for congresses, conventions, exhibitions and incentive trips, by certifying that the destination has stakeholders who have participated in a verification and improvement process under specialized industry standards.
