In a landmark extraordinary session, members of the City Council unanimously voted to request funds from the State, through the Environmental Improvement Fund (FOAM), to bring the exciting new “Mil Azahares” Environmental Education Museum to life.

The proposal outlines an investment under a peso-for-peso matching scheme: the municipality of Purisima will contribute 500,000 pesos, requesting an equal match of 500,000 pesos from the State. Should the State Authorities validate the project, a total fund of 1 million pesos will be exclusively earmarked for this cultural and ecological endeavor.

The State will begin reviewing the application, along with its baseline project and financial scope this week, following the enthusiastic green light from the City Council to kick off the procedures.
The greatest benefit for Purisimenses will be having a highly interactive space that encourages environmental stewardship through a dynamic, hands-on tour.

The museum’s design is strategically planned in stages. This ensures that, even if the total investment goal takes time to reach, the venue can open its doors to the public as soon as the first hall is completed, with the rest of the facility developing progressively, as noted by Mayor of Purisima del Rincon Roberto Garcia Urbano.
The project is set to kick off with a room dedicated to the human body, offering a comprehensive and engaging education experience right from day one.

The executive project proposes the creation of four highly engaging thematic areas to inspire visitors:
- Biodiversity: A stunning space showcasing the region’s Protected Natural Area (ANP), its rich endemic vegetation, and vital local biological corridors
- Climate Change: A room designed to raise deep awareness about this global phenomenon, its causes, our collective carbon footprint, and actionable community guides to make a difference
- Water Culture: Fully focused on the preservation, appreciation, and responsible use of our most precious water resources
- Air Quality: A fascinating interactive module to help visitors understand air pollutants, how much carbon dioxide we generate daily, and the direct health consequences of emissions.

With this unanimous approval, the Purisima del Rincon City Council strongly reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable agenda, making a profound investment in the education of children and families, recognizing it as the absolute best tool to protect the municipality’s immense natural wealth.

Council members emphasized that, while they are always vocal about issues they disagree with, they wholeheartedly and completely support this brilliant initiative.
