Guanajuato/Gto News
As part of the actions for fire prevention, in the Sierra de Santa Rosa of the municipality of Guanajuato, the firebreak construction day promoted by the Secretary of Water and Environment was held.

In this space, 700 linear meters of firebreak were opened as part of the protection of the area in a total of 200 hectares of oak forest, which is located within the area of influence of the El Peralillo Dam in the Community of Puerto de Santa Rosa.
To carry out these actions, 3 brigades of 10 elements each were integrated and located at three previously selected strategic points, for which specialized tools were available at the sites and technical support from forestry coordination personnel.

The head of the Secretary of Water and Environment, Jose Lara Lona, said that each gap is a defense for trees, fauna and clean air, since with every meter of gap that is opened the biodiversity that inhabits this mountain range is protected.
“This activity reflects the strength of the people of Guanajuato, because it is not an isolated effort, but the sum of wills that believe in the importance of taking care of what surrounds us,” said Lara Lona.

The Official added that these actions are seeds of prevention that will germinate into a safer and more sustainable future, and are part of a collective commitment to nature and to the future of Guanajuato.
Fire prevention is based on taking the necessary actions to prevent these type of incidents from occurring in forest areas, or to reduce their impact and help prevent their spread when these fires do occur.

Some of the actions highlighted include:
- Opening of firebreaks
- Maintenance of firebreaks
- Handling combustible material and pruning waste
The Secretary of Water and Environment, Jose Lara Lona, the Secretary’s forestry brigade, and temporary workers participated in the environment protection event.
