Training in just a few hours and improving employment opportunities is now a reality in Guanajuato thanks to microcredentials, a flexible training model that allows students and workers to acquire, in a short time, the skills that the productive sector demands today.

This strategy is part of the vision promoted by the Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, who has indicated that education must respond more quickly to changes in the labor market and become a direct lever to improve the income and quality of life of the people of Guanajuato.

During the first session of 2026 of the Microcredentials Subcommittee of the State Productivity Commission, chaired by businessman Fernando Cuadra, the progress of this strategy aimed at strengthening competitiveness and talent development in the State was presented.

At the meeting, it was announced that 87 new micro-credentials will be available in the coming weeks. With this, Guanajuato will surpass 150 officially recognized micro-credentials, solidifying this offer as a strategic alternative for the development of specialized talent, reported Aldelmo Emmanuel Israel Reyes Pablo, Undersecretary of Higher and Upper Secondary Education for the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato.

Representatives of the business sector shared proposals and raised specific requirements for the training of specialized human capital, strengthening the effective link between education and the productive sector.

The session was attended by the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, the Secretary of Economy, the University of Guanajuato, the University of Celaya, the Virtual University of the State of Guanajuato (UVEG), the State Commission for Planning Higher Education (COEPES) and representatives of the business sector, who agreed that this scheme strengthens the connection between education, talent and economic development.

Microcredentials are training programs lasting 10 to 50 hours, which can be taken in person, online, or in a blended format. They are designed by universities and higher education institutions based on the needs identified in the productive sectors.

Unlike traditional programs, which can take years to update, a microcredential can be developed in a period of two to three months, allowing for a rapid response to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and other strategic job skills, in line with the State policy of innovation and talent development.

These certifications are backed by higher education institutions and can be accumulated as academic credits, opening up the possibility that, over time, participants can advance towards a higher secondary or higher education degree, consolidating a flexible, relevant and highly valued education path in the labor market.
