Crochet stuffed animals, wooden toys, yarn bags, leather wallets and carpentry work are some of the products that can be found at the “Artesanos, Nuevo Comienzo” stand, a space that emerges to showcase the creativity and skills of people deprived of their liberty in Guanajuato.

Located in Parteluces of the Poliforum Leon, in front of room C2, this stand is part of the Inclusion Pavilion, an initiative of the Government of the People that promotes social reintegration through work, as indicated by Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, Secretary of Security and Peace.

For the first time, the Leon State Fair offers a showcase for the exhibition and sale of crafts made by 108 inmates from the 11 penitentiary centers of Guanajuato. This is an inclusive project that highlights the talent and effort of men, women and people with motor disabilities, who seek to make their creativity and dedication visible.

“It is not just about making a piece of furniture for the sake of making a piece of furniture. Rather, it is about a piece of furniture that we can display outside and that whoever buys it or needs it will gladly prefer to buy it inside rather than outside,” explained Julio Cesar Perez Ramirez, general director of the Guanajuato Penitentiary System.

Each product for sale is unique in its manufacture, as it was made by hand and bears exceptional care and hope for its success in this exhibition showcase at the state and international event.

The crafts displayed at the stand represent, on the one hand, an economic support for people in prison and their families, but, on the other hand, they are also an opportunity for creators to show their ability to contribute positively from their condition of imprisonment.

For the first time, the Inclusion Pavilion joins the Leon State Fair, aligning itself with the vision of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo to promote equity and inclusion. Froylan Salas Navarro, Undersecretary for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Mipyme) of the Ministry of Economy, invited citizens to consume these products that are made with the Guanajuato Brand methodology as a symbol of quality.

“We invite you to come and consume the products of all these people who are today paying their debt to society, but who are seeking prosperity and a new beginning for their families. It is something from and for the people of Guanajuato,” said Salas Navarro.
