Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato registered the first case of heat stroke in the State; thanks to timely attention, the patient recovered satisfactorily.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, said that the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato registered the first case of heat stroke in Tarimoro in a 77-year-old adult, who was treated promptly.

“The patient is at home safe and sound. We take this opportunity to encourage the public, particularly children under 5 and adults over 60, to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and consume plenty of water-rich foods such as fruit and vegetables, as well as consum broths which are also highly recommended, and care for themselves,” said the Secretary.

“When someone presents any symptoms of heat stroke, they should immediately go to the nearest People’s Health Center to be treated,” said the Secretary of Health.

This case, which occurred this month in Tarimoro, is the first documented case of heat stroke in Guanajuato.

Guanajuatenses are asked to observe the following actions to prevent heat stroke:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, especially during peak hours to prevent heatstroke
  • Pay special attention in children under 5 years of age
  • Also in adults over 60, as they are the most vulnerable groups and prone to dehydration due to high temperatures

Doing physical activity outdoors is recommended only early in the morning or in the late afternoon when the sun is lower, but during hot hours the call is to take shelter and stay well hydrated.

Heat stroke is a serious condition that occurs when the body is unable to control its temperature, rising rapidly above 40 degrees Celsius.

Its main symptoms include:

  • Hot and dry skin, headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, rapid pulse, and even loss of consciousness

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause dehydration, skin burns, physical exhaustion and worsening of chronic diseases, so it is essential to adopt preventive actions.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato recommends:

  • Avoid sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing
  • Wear a cap, hat, or umbrela

It is also important to stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, preferably drinking water, even if you are not thirsty.
