Walmart invests a million dollars to build a state-of-the-art distribution center

The corner-stone of the new Walmart Distribution Center -CEDIS- was laid, consolidating Guanajuato as a key hub in logistics and attracting investments for the central-western region.
The distribution center, located in Silao, represents an investment of 550 million dollars and will cover an area of 9.5 hectares built within a 45-hectare plot of land. It will be the first fully automated distribution center in Mexico, equipped with cutting-edge technology that will optimize efficiency in the handling of dry products.
The head of the Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, noted the role of Guanajuato in strengthening Mexico’s logistics infrastructure and said: “The Government of the People, led by Governor Libia Denisse Garcia Munoz Ledo, continues working to attract strategic investments that promote economic development, competitiveness and job creation in the region”.
In line with global sustainability trends, the CEDIS will be equipped with solar panels and an advanced water filtration system, positioning itself as a benchmark in the use of sustainable technologies.
The logistics center is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2027, serving more than 600 Walmart stores in The Bajio, covering states such as Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacan, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.
The project is part of the efforts of the Government of the People to strengthen economic infrastructure and attract new investments that generate prosperity for the people of Guanajuato.
The Secretary of Economy of Guanajuato leads policies focused on the development of logistics value chains, integrating sectors such as infrastructure, technology, trade and transportation. This approach has allowed Guanajuato to consolidate itself as an attractive destination for national and international companies seeking to optimize their operations and strengthen their presence in Mexico.
The Guanajuato Logistics and Mobility Cluster, which brings together more than 40 companies and groups, continues to be a benchmark in the creation of efficient logistics solutions. This sector generates more than 51,300 jobs and represents 7.1% of the state’s GDP.
The project by Walmart represents the first major investment in the current State Administration, reinforcing its commitment to continue attracting both national and foreign capital in key sectors such as the automotive, pharmaceutical, plastics, agro-food and new technologies industries.
The Government of Guanajuato will continue working to create a solid and prosperous business environment, with the goal of achieving a balanced economy that benefits all regions of Guanajuato.
