Strengthening regional collaboration will allow for the construction of lasting peace for the States of the Central-Western region of Mexico, said the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, while participating in the Eighth Regional Security Reunion, held at the Regional Museum of Guanajuato, Alhondiga de Granaditas.

“Today we gather in this historic building, the Alhondiga de Granaditas, which represents the yearning for freedom. We hope that teamwork will continue to flourish, with the purpose of strengthening the security strategy, because we are committed to make of our States and of Mexico a better place for the families who live in them,” said Libia Dennise.

The meeting of the Central-Western states, organized by the People’s Government, in coordination with Military Regions XII and V, was attended by Governors of Colima, Nayarit and Zacatecas and representatives of the Governors of Aguascalientes, Jalisco and Michoacan.

Also participating were Major General Porfirio Fuentes Velez, commander of the Fifth Military Region, and Brigadier General Jorge Pedro Nieto Sanchez, interim commander of the Twelfth Military Region.

The governors presented the main actions implemented in security matters in their states since the last session, held last April.

Among the agreements reached are:

  • Increase permanent surveillance in border areas to more effectively address criminal activity
  • Strengthen investment in technology to establish a single communication channel between States
  • Reinforce highway surveillance operations to deter cargo theft
  • Maintain operational coordination of the States to consolidate the regional security strategy

Also participating were other Authorities and officials of the military, state Governments, the judiciary and heads of the National Intelligence Center.
