Liam and his father, Victor, are home. After being detained by U.S. immigration authorities in Texas and subsequently deported to Mexico, father and son returned to Guanajuato and were taken to their home in Santa Catarina.

Since the case became known, the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, instructed that support be provided to the family and that coordination be maintained with the competent authorities, with special attention to the protection of Liam’s rights and well-being, as he is a minor.

“From the moment we learned of the case, our Governor instructed us to support the family and do everything within our means. Our priority at all times was Liam’s well-being, the protection of his rights, and keeping his family informed and supported,” said the head of the Human Rights Secretary, Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto.

The State Government worked in coordination with consular authorities, the Undersecretary for Attention to Migrants and in the Context of Mobility, the National Institute of Migration (INAMI) and leaders of the migrant community to follow up on the process and, once the father and son were in Mexico, facilitate their return to Guanajuato.

Also participating in this support was migrant leader Dolores “Lolita” Aviña, from the Guanajuato Association of the State of Texas, as well as other migrant leaders who followed the case from the United States.

After entering Mexican territory through Tabasco, the necessary arrangements were made to facilitate the transfer of Liam and Victor to Guanajuato.

Father and son boarded a flight to the State and arrived at the Bajio International Airport, where they were received by the Secretary of Government, Jorge Jimenez Lona; personnel from the Secretary of Human Rights and members of the Santa Catarina City Council.
