The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato informed that it has registered an annual decrease in road accident deaths per 100,000 inhabitants

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reported a sustained decrease in the rate of deaths caused by traffic accidents per 100,000 inhabitants, thanks to the work of institutions and municipalities to strengthen road safety in the State.

The data shows that in 2017 the death rate caused by road accidents was 19.67 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, while by 2025 this figure was reduced to 13.75 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, representing a decrease of approximately 30 percent in the period analyzed.

Likewise, the absolute number of deaths fell from 1,162 in 2017 to 899 in 2025, despite the annual increase in the vehicle fleet.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, reported that these results are the product of a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes prevention, risk management and timely attention to road accidents, through actions of the Ministry of Health of Guanajuato in coordination with various State andMunicipal agencies.

Among the main actions that have contributed to the decrease in deaths caused by road accidents are the Road Safety Audits, interventions carried out by multidisciplinary teams made up of personnel of the Health, Public Works, Civil Protection, Transit, Mobility and Inspection agencies.

These support teams identify high accident or risk points to issue recommendations and promote infrastructure improvements that allow for safer roads.

In addition, awareness of road safety has been strengthened through recreational workshops and education strategies aimed at modifying risky behaviors in the population.

Another key strategy has been the implementation of Breathalyzer Tests, that aim to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, annual measurements of risk factors are carried out in the municipalities with the highest incidence of accidents, evaluating aspects such as the use of helmets, seat belts and child restraint systems.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reaffirmed the commitment to continue working in coordination with different levels of Government, institutions and civil society to reduce mortality from road accidents and protect the lives of the people of Guanajuato.
