Seven migrants from Guanajuato have been identified as victims in the trailer box in San Antonio, Texas

The Mexican consulate in San Antonio, Texas informed Guanajuato’s Migrant Secretary that there are 7 deceased Guanajuato migrants inside a trailer box abandoned in this place in the United States.
Juan Hernandez, head of the Secretary of Migrants and International Affairs –SMEI-, said that, in a meeting with Ruben Minutti, he gave him this preliminary figure and the municipalities of origin of the victims.
“They have sadly confirmed to us that there are already 7 who have been identified and that they are from Guanajuato”, said Hernandez.
The victims:
- 3 from Cortazar
- 3 from Celaya
- One more from Valle de Santiago
Hernandez said that there are still unidentified bodies.
Personnel from Mexico’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs also traveled to Texas, along with members of the Mexican embassy in Washington to jointly attend to this tragedy.
Hernandez said that the families requested that the names of the deceased not be revealed, out of respect for all of them and it is likely that the return of the remains to Guanajuato would occur in approximately 2 weeks.

Hernandez called the migrant community to think it over and not take risks when deciding to seek the “American Dream” when crossing the desert, the river or traveling aboard cargo vehicles and be left abandoned in their quest for the United States.
