Guanajuato/Gto News

In order to guarantee that the population has clear and timely information about the quality of the air they breathe, the Government of Guanajuato through the Secretary of Environment and Territorial Planning -SMAOT-, strengthens the network of the Air Quality Monitoring System of the State of Guanajuato -SIMEG-.

With the acquisition of 7 additional atmospheric pollutant measurement equipment, the systems of the municipalities of Leon, Salamanca, Silao, Irapuato and Celaya are strengthened, and coverage is expanded to 13 municipalities in the state that represent 72% of the total population, operating 4 new monitoring stations, 1 in Celaya, 1 in Leon, 1 in Penjamo and 1 in Dolores Hidalgo, of which the station called Rastro in Celaya is already being published, and soon the one called Norte in Leon.

This year, monitoring starts in the municipalities of Penjamo and Dolores Hidalgo, which will be published after the stabilization process of the equipment.

The renewed equipment has the capacity to record local conditions and remotely report operating conditions, reporting failures that allow for quick response to errors that may arise during the generation and air quality information. This will reduce the response times of our maintenance workshop and have a higher percentage of published information.

The new equipment emulates human breathing and know the pollutants that the population breathes, this way monitors can know if there are health risks and inform what actions the population should take to reduce their exposure and the effects of the pollutants. They are essential for the activation of the atmospheric environmental contingency programs of the municipalities of Salamanca and Leon, as well as the programs to reduce PM10 levels in the municipalities of Celaya and Irapuato.

The system in Guanajuato collaborates with local universities (University of Guanajuato, Technological University of Leon and Technological University of Salamanca) in the supervision of the monitoring network and the operation of the Gravimetry Laboratory.

The Air and Health Index is published in a clear and timely manner on: https://smaot.guanajuato.gob.mx/sitio/seica/monitoreo/ and the application for mobile devices EcoApp; it is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for your consultation.
