The Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) of the Government of Guanajuato anticipates a summer season with a large number of tourists and visitors, driven by the extension of the vacation period for the 2025-2026 school year.
This year, the school year starts in September, which means 46 vacation days, 11 more than last year, and with it, greater opportunities for families to travel and enjoy the State’s seven tourist-oriented regions of Guanajuato.
“From World Heritage cities to our magical towns, archaeological sites, and artisan and gastronomic routes, Guanajuato has a robust, integrated, and constantly evolving tourism offering,” explained Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the People’s Government, headed by Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
In this period, it is estimated that more than 592,000 tourists will stay in Guanajuato hotels, with an average occupancy rate of 38 percent. In total, the state expects to receive more than 2.9 million visitors -including tourists and excursionists- who could generate an economic impact exceeding 7.189 billion pesos.
“We always seek to integrate a consolidated value chain. We’re talking about hoteliers, restaurateurs, producers, tour guides, and traditional chefs and cooks. In general, everything revolves around tourism, which is recognized for the quality of our offer,” said Guadalupe Robles.
The main touristic cities:
Leon will be the destination with the greatest influx, with an expected arrival of more than 181,000 tourists and a hotel occupancy rate of 50 percent
In Guanajuato City, 102,000 tourists are expected, with an occupancy rate of 34 percent
While San Miguel de Allende will receive more than 83,000 visitors, with an estimated occupancy rate of 36 percent
In Celaya, more than 39,000 tourists are expected, with an occupancy rate of 35 percent
Irapuato projects an occupancy rate of 35 percent with 58,000 visitors
And in Dolores Hidalgo, the Cradle of National Independence, occupancy will be 28 percent, with just over 14,000 tourists
The summer campaign, promoted by SECTURI, includes a national promotional strategy that seeks to highlight the cultural, natural, and culinary richness of the 46 municipalities, strengthening established destinations and promoting emerging ones.
In addition to media and social media outreach, the presence of the State on digital platforms will be strengthened, as well as the coordinated work with travel agencies and tourism service providers.
