The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, highlighted the State’s potential and its trade relationship with the United States, during her participation in the Binational Convention 2026, organized by The American Society of Mexico.

“Guanajuato competes on a global scale; we are not talking about Guanajuato as a future expectation, because today, it is a State that competes in international markets,” said the Governor.

The Governor of Guanajuato highlighted the State’s competitive advantages, such as its relationship with international markets, operational reliability, evolving talent, and visión for the future.

“What is important is that these four things are not separate. They function as a single ecosystem. And that, for us, is Guanajuato’s true competitive advantage,” said the Governor.

In 2025 alone, according to official figures, bilateral trade between Guanajuato and the United States reached approximately $47.7 billion. Guanajuato exported nearly $33 billion to the United States, but also imported almost $15 billion in inputs, components, and goods that are part of our own production processes.

“For us as a state, it is very important to maintain a firm, solid, trusting, and collaborative relationship with the United States. Our bilateral relationship is one that must be strengthened based on trust, and Guanajuato has been a strategic ally in strengthening this relationship,” said Libia Dennise.

Guanajuato’s export vocation continues to grow. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the State exported more than 10 billion dollars, an annual growth of 9.8 percent.

Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo explained that 1,418 of these exports are from Guanajuatense companies, and 78 percent are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Currently, products made in Guanajuato reach 113 countries. To boost this capacity, the State has the Foreign Trade Promotion Coordinator (COFOCE), a specialized agency that supports companies in developing capabilities, opening markets, and competing globally.

The Governor spoke about Guanajuato’s location in Central Mexico and highlighted that within a 400-kilometer radius, there is access to a substantial part of the market, population, automotive industry, and exports of the country, connected by corridors 45 and 57, along with the Ferromex and CPKC networks, and access to Manzanillo, Lazaro Cardenas, and Veracruz.

In addition, the State has Guanajuato Inland Port (GPI), an example of a competitive ecosystem, a space where industry, highway, railway, customs, airport, services and talent development converge.

Operating at Guanajuato Inland Port are:

  • 141 companies from 18 countries
  • More than 30,000 jobs
  • Over $5.5 billion in accumulated investment

Its size isn’t the only important factor. It’s what it enables: reducing times, integrating suppliers, and moving goods through different modes of transport, the Governor said.

Added to this commercial environment is the Bajio Logistics Gate, a logistics project in Celaya designed to take advantage of access to the two major railway networks, Ferromex and CPKC, and connect with border crossings and ports on the Pacific and Gulf coasts.

Regarding local talent, Guanajuato has a workforce of around 2.9 million people, more than 68,000 engineering students, and nearly 11,000 engineering graduates each year.

All of this works in conjunction with universities, companies, the State Institute of Training (IECA), dual training, and the micro-credentials project to bridge the gap between what industry needs and what talent knows how to do.

Guanajuato is an example of an excellent trade relationship with the outside world, with an accumulated history of:

  • More than 35 billion dollars of investment
  • From companies in 28 countries
  • More than 232,000 jobs committed

In the current State Administration, 81 projects worth more than 6.556 billion dollars have been completed, in sectors ranging from manufacturing and services to new technologies, logistics and agro-industry.

Guanajuato’s value proposition can be summarized in four certainties:

  • Market certainty, because it is deeply integrated into North American production chains
  • Operational certainty, because it has infrastructure, logistics, and connectivity that allow for efficient production and movement
  • Talent certainty, because it has scale, technical capabilities, and, above all, the ability to train and adapt talent as the industry evolves
  • Capacity for Evolution, because it diversifies its economy, incorporates technology, strengthens its energy infrastructure, and increases the value generated locally

“Our vision is the growth of our region. When we talk about investments and industries coming to our State, we are talking about something much more powerful than capital, money, or infrastructure; we are talking about the trust that a country and a company place in us,” the Governor concluded.
