The artistic talent of Guanajuato will display its quality and diversity during the Cervantino International Festival , adding a total of 15 stage and musical proposals to the 51st edition, to be held from October 13 to 29.

Feria Purísima Octubre

A total of 19 groups and soloists, with more than 300 artists, will share their work on the different Cervantino stages, not only in Guanajuato capital, but also in Irapuato and Leon; for an agenda of 16 presentations.

The Guanajuato artistic delegation is made up of the projects selected through the annual call of the State Institute of Culture and direct invitations to creators with a long career.

Special collaborative projects will also be added by the State Music Band with soprano Olivia Gorra and the Vientos Musicales program with Patricia Hidalgo and the Alondras Huastecas trio; that complete the traditional music billboard as well as the Son del Monton collective.

As for concert music, Talento Guanajuato provides soloists such as pianist Braulio Alcaraz and guitarist Vladimir Ibarra; as well as the Tzina Ensemble, the Silvestre Revueltas Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Choir of the Celaya Conservatory of Music.

The performing arts will be represented by: Sergio Langarica, Liquido Colectivo, Opera Guanajuato, Gitanas Teatro and Producciones Tlaxquenia; in addition to specific proposals for children, such as those of the Chimalma Ensemble, Ojo Negro Teatro de Titeres and Erase una Vez Producciones.

It will be the State Music Band, a group that last year received the Eugenio Trueba Olivares Prize, that will open the Guanajuato participation on Monday the 16th, at the Irapuato City Theater, with the premiere of “Jewels lost. Jose Alfredo Jimenez, the other music”.

This program, dedicated to the king of vernacular music on his 50th death anniversary, is enriched with the voice of the acclaimed Mexican soprano Olivia Gorra and will also be presented at the Explanada de la Alhondiga de Granaditas on Wednesday the 18th.

Traditional music will also resonate with “Sangre Negra”, the concert prepared by the Son del Monton collective for the Manuel Doblado Theater in Leon, which pays tribute to Mexican rhythms of African descent. This group brings together contributions from the groups Alarake, Tarima y Son, Trio Guanaxteco and Son del Monton.

The traditional category is completed by the concert “Encuentros con el son”, a tribute to this rhythm that takes on different flavors depending on the region of the country and that brings together the Vientos Musicales Ensemble, the Veracruz musicians Patricio and Yaratze Hidalgo; the trio from Potosi Alondras Huastecas and Vincent Velazquez and Victoria Cuacuas.

The concert music section incorporates the Silvestre Revueltas Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Choir of the Celaya Conservatory of Music, an institution that has accumulated more than a decade of collaborations with the Cervantino and will return to the Companía Temple on Tuesday the 17th to present the “Cello Concerto” by Dvorak and the “Stabat Mater” by Poulenc, under the direction of Jesus Almanza.

With more contemporary sounds and a message in favor of respect for diversity, Tzina Ensamble will visit the same stage on Wednesday the 25th to share “Inclusion”, a program with new music by Jacobo Cerda, Nathanael Lorenzo Hernández and Nubia Jaime Donjuán, with Óscar Argumedo in the baton.

Braulio Alcaraz and Vladimir Ibarra, two of the most outstanding young Guanajuato soloists, will share their fine craft on the piano and guitar in separate recitals. Alcaraz will present “Mexican Resonance”, a program with works by Castro, Ponce, Chavez and Bernal Jimenez, on Tuesday the 24th, at the Pinacoteca del Templo de la Companía; while Ibarra will bring to the Plaza de Gallos in Leon, on Thursday the 26th, “Dramatis personae”, a recital about the figure, period and work of the poet and playwright William Shakespeare.

The multidisciplinary stage will be expressed with “Miniver. The Three Superstates”, a set up by Paula Hugh with Producciones Tlaxquenia, inspired by the dystopian concept of perpetual surveillance exploited in the novel “1984” and which presents an oppressive world controlled by the Ministry of Truth.

With a proposal that transcends stage work, Gitanas Teatro will share “Manada”, a participatory, playful and theatrical experience, in which the cast acts as a guide for the spectators for a dynamic of introspection and self-care.

The theater program includes two notable one-man shows: “Prisa”, by Alfredo Avila with Liquido Colectivo; and “Birds in the Head”, by Sergio Langarica, which recently emerged as a Selected Production of the State Theater Meeting; as well as “Servidor de dos amos”, a hilarious entanglement with all the flavor of the comedy of art, which will be brought to the stage of the Teatro Cervantes by the Opera Guanajuato company.

The program is completed by three proposals focused on children. The first of them is “El retablo de Maese Pedro”, a mix of opera and puppet theater inspired by an episode of “Don Quixote de la Mancha”, which will be brought to the Plaza de San Roque by Erase una Vez Producciones.

Ojo Negro Puppet Theater will do the same with “Mutants, the mysterious secrets of nature”, a futuristic piece set in 2050, when a virus wipes out almost all of humanity, leaving only the girls and boys as survivors; while the Chimalma Ensemble will offer “Chimalmanimales”, an evocative musical-poetic didactic recital built with works inspired by animals and commissioned to authors from Mexico, Spain, Brazil and the United States.
