The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato exceeds 27,000 appointments for medica specialties at the General Hospital of Leon

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato exceeded 27,000 specialties appointments at the General Hospital of Leon.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, indicated that to date a total of 27,555 specialties appointments have been granted in the period from April 15 to 29 of this year, in the morning, afternoon and accumulated shifts.

“People are waiting for an appointment for general orthopedic surgery or abdominal surgery, those are the main ones, but well, all specialties and subspecialties are very busy,” said Cortes.

The Secretary of Health indicated that in 2022 there were approximately 110,000 consultations provided, while in 2025 there were 155,000 in round numbers.

This figure represents an increase of more than 40% in three years, which requires a very large effort, because it not only means receiving more people, but also having greater capacity and expanding spaces, shifts, and specialties to be able to meet this need.

Cortes Alcala indicated that if someone missed their appointment and requires follow-up care, they can register and schedule it, although they already have recurring appointments with a large number of people coming to make their appointments.

“We appreciate the trust you have in our State’s health system to receive care and health services; there is nothing else to say but thank you,” said Cortes.

The Secretary of Health pointed out that they are working to facilitate the registration of electronic appointments. For this purpose, they have an electronic system, so now they have to migrate so that people can do it remotely, from their home or from the health center closest to their home and avoid traveling long distances.

“We are going to try to do it in a much more user-friendly way, remotely, from different platforms, by phone, through a computer, so that people have different ways to get their appointment and have it on time without having to travel, that is the instruction of our Governor and that is how we are going to do it,” said Cortes.

In the case of a remote community, where internet service is scarce, it can be a little more difficult, so the aim is to do it equitably so that everyone has the same opportunity to schedule their specialty appointment, said the Secretary.
