The passion for soccer has also left its mark on birth records in Guanajuato. During the period from March 1 to July 21, 2026, a total of 259 girls and boys were registered with names inspired by prominent soccer players who participated in the recent World Cup.
According to information of the State Civil Registry, Leonel was the name with the highest number of registrations, with 158 cases, followed by Kevin with 29, Luka with 21, Michael with 12, Kylian with 11, Lionel with 9 and Ronaldo with 7 registrations.
Less common names such as Mikel, Junior, Jamal, Lautaro, Ousmane, Harry, and Erling were also recorded, reflecting how major sporting events also influence families’ decisions when naming their children.
Beyond trends, the Civil Registry of the State of Guanajuato reminds everyone that timely birth registration is the first step in guaranteeing the right to identity, allowing access to health services, education, and other fundamental rights.
The People’s Government, through the State Civil Registry, invited Guanajuatense families to register their children in the first year of life at the 166 offices in the 46 municipalities, guaranteeing their right to identity and access to the rights and services that correspond to them from birth.
In 2026 there is campaign called “A New Beginning Kit”, a priority program for the People’s Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, who is committed to the comprehensive development of new generations, through a birth registration package for girls and boys under one year old, which includes a blanket, crib sheet, hoodie with a cap, diaper bag, face towel and a bath towel.
This effort is coordinated by the Secretary of Health and the Secretary of Government, through the Civil Registry of the State of Guanajuato, to be close and support Guanajuatense families during the first months of their babies’ lives, promoting breastfeeding, early care, healthy lifestyles and timely birth registration.
