The traditions of Guanajuato and the Mayan worldview of the Yucatan Peninsula will find a meeting point at the 20th Festival of Life and Death by Grupo Xcaret, where Guanajuato’s identity will be the Guest of Honor and will share with visitors from Mexico and the world the richness of its cultural, gastronomic, artisanal and artistic expressions.

For the People’s Government of Governor Libia Denisse Garcia Munoz Ledo, and the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), this participation promotes cultural tourism and strengthens appreciation for our roots by bringing visitors closer to traditions through sensory experiences that allow them to learn about, listen to, taste, and recognize Mexico’s cultural diversity.

Furthermore, it simultaneously contributes to generating opportunities for the communities, artisans, traditional cooks, and tradition bearers who are part of this celebration.

Before national media, opinion leaders and influencers, the official program of the festival was presented at the same time as the participation of Guanajuato as the guest State in this edition; and as part of the experience, a gastronomic sample was offered by the traditional cooks Maria del Consuelo Venancio Mesita, from the municipality of Comonfort, and Maria Aurelia Colchado Garcia, from the municipality of Ocampo, who will prepare representative dishes of the traditional Guanajuatense cuisine.

More than just a gathering of traditions, the Festival becomes a bridge for dialogue between different ways of understanding, celebrating, and preserving life and memory. In this space, Guanajuato will bring the knowledge of our traditional cooks, our flavors, offerings, music, dances, and the creative hands that keep alive the stories passed down from generation to generation.

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon said that Guanajuato will have representation from different municipalities of the State, where the Chichimeca and Otomí cultures stand out.

The Secretary also explained that “We will be joined by traditional cooks. We are deeply moved that Guanajuato is now part of this story. We will be representing the only state in all of Mexico with two cities recognized as World Heritage Sites: Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende. In addition, Guanajuato boasts six Magic Towns and seven Enchanted Places. But above all, we will represent our people and the communities that keep our traditions alive every day.”

“Because in Guanajuato, the Day of the Dead is celebrated from home, from the community in its streets, and also from the kitchen,” said the Secretary.

“There will be workshops so that people can not only taste Guanajuato, but also learn the knowledge, techniques and stories behind our cuisine; through traditional cooks”, said Robles.
