COFOCE presented the results of the agricultural sector trade mission in McAllen at a press conference

With the goal of improving the international trade of agricultural companies in Guanajuato and opening a direct channel between farmers and distribution and marketing companies located in McAllen, Texas, United States, a trade mission was carried out in that city.
The results of the mission were 16 exporting companies served, 17 international buyers connected, served and linked to companies in Guanajuato, as well as 3 new exporting companies.
“More than 20 companies accompanied us on this trade mission organized by COFOCE, where we met with different clients to meet and organize business on the border in the agro-food sector,” said Asael Colunga, General Director of the Internationalization Commission and Sectorial Directories of COFOCE.
According to COFOCE estimates, more than 1.34 billion dollars were reported to have been exported by the sector from January to June 2024.
The main destination countries of the farm production of Guanajuato are:
- The United States with a share of 91.20 percent
- Canada with 3.50 percent
- Guatemala with 0.88 percent
And the most exported products are:
- Frozen broccoli, fresh broccoli, frozen vegetables, fresh carrots, fresh celery and fresh cucumber
For this trade mission, in which several companies from the sector from different municipalities participated, exportable products from Guanajuato were offered, including:
- White, yellow and purple onions, cilantro, American cucumber, tomatoes, dragon fruit, carrots, celery, asparagus, lettuce, yellow corn, berries and broccoli. Protected agriculture products included: peppers, European cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, grape and ball tomatoes, among other
“Why McAllen? McAllen plays a very important commercial role in the agricultural sector. It is a warehouse area where agriculture products arrive and are consolidated and then distributed throughout the United States and then to Canada, in addition, many intermediaries buy the product from our farmers and sell it there, so for us this mission is very important to avoid intermediaries,” said Alfonso Mena, agricultural products coordinator at COFOCE.
Tacho Anaya, owner of Tianjose greenhouses and fresh crops, said that the impact of the negotiations is in the short and medium term, since after the visit they began to receive requests.
“As a farmer, I want to tell you that we are very happy for these days that we were visiting more than 10 companies, during that week we realized that there is a diversity of products, where each of the companies want to deal freely with each one of us, that we have a direct line we congratulate the State Government, in this case COFOCE, for having these alliances to build these bridges, which in the end help us to be able to go on and to be able to have this type of international marketing so that they know our products and give them this added value” said the businessman.
