With a joint investment of 1 million pesos by the Municipal and State Governments and an agenda featuring 17 education activities, the Municipal Government announced the modernization of the Mil Azahares Ecopark along with celebrations for the 14th anniversary of the declaration of Cerro del Palenque as a Protected Natural Area (ANP).

Mayor Roberto Garcia Urbano informed during a press conference that the project includes the creation of a fully interactive Mil Azahares Science Museum.

The construction work, which has a remaining execution period of six months, will feature exhibition design with touch screens, information modules on the monarch butterfly, local aquifers, and climate change, while preserving the Human Body gallery.
Funding is split equally, with 500,000 pesos coming from municipal coffers and an equivalent amount from the Environmental Fund (FOAM), managed through the Secretary of Water and Environment (SAMA) with City Council validation. The Procurement Committee will award the contract in the coming days to serve an estimated attendance of 10,000 people, including students and regular park visitors.

During the press conference, the Mayor was with Trustee Claudia Lorena Arriaga Guerrero and Ecology Coordinator Dolores Munoz Estrada.
Alongside the construction of the Science Museum, the municipality will celebrate the designation of Cerro del Palenque as an ANP, commemorated this upcoming November 2, with a program running from November 3 to November 8, organized in collaboration with the group Verde y Salvaje.

The celebration:
- November 3 to 5: Terrarium workshops and the puppet theater play “Fire in El Palenque” will take place at local schools (CETAC, Dolores, Palenque, El Vigia, and Descubridora).

- November 6 to 8: The pedestrian zone will host 30 exhibitors offering talks on local fauna, a display of birds of prey, and the legal sale of certified flora and fauna, including axolotls, orchids, and cacti, with guidance of federal authorities.
