In the context of World Organ, Tissue and Transplant Donation Day, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reports 349 organ and tissue procurements during 2026.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, noted that donation represents an opportunity to transform the pain of a loss into hope for those awaiting a transplant.
“From January to September 2026, Guanajuato registered 118 deceased donors, of which 59 were due to brain death. The State reached a rate of 9.57 donors per million inhabitants,” said the Secretary.

Cortes Alcala pointed out that these figures reflect the solidarity of the Guanajuatense families and the coordinated work of health personnel to provide new opportunities of life to patients who need an organ or tissue.
These donations include:
- 349 organs and tissues
- Including 201 corneas
- 106 kidneys
- 23 musculoskeletal tissues
- 16 livers
- Two lungs
- One heart

The Secretary of Health emphasized that each donated organ and tissue represents a possibility to improve a person’s health, recover essential functions, and, in many cases, offer a second chance at life.
During the same period:
- 256 transplants have been performed in Guanajuato, as a result of the coordination of hospitals, medical teams and specialized personnel who participate in the donation and transplant processes
- Of the total procedures, 162 were kidney transplants
- 90 from deceased donors
- 72 from living donors
- 94 corneal transplants were performed to improve patients’ quality of life

Cortes Alcala invited the public to learn about organ and tissue donation, and to talk to their families about this decision, so that they know and respect the decision expressed while alive.
The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato reiterates the importance of fostering a culture of donation based on solidarity, information, and social participation, which allows us to offer hope to those who are on the waiting list.
Donating is an act of love that transcends and can change the life of other people; therefore, the People’s Government recognizes those who, with generosity, make it possible for life to continue and reaffirms its commitment to humane and timely care.
