The City of San Miguel de Allende has been recognized for ten consecutive years as one of the favorite destinations of travelers from around the world, in the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

San Miguel de Allende has once again positioned itself on the international tourism stage by obtaining fourth place among the best small cities in the world, according to the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards of the specialized magazine Condé Nast Traveler, one of the benchmark recognitions in the travel industry.
For the People’s Government of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, this recognition, in which Guanajuato has participated for 10 years, is for Guanajuatenses: for those who welcome each visitor with a smile, for those who keep our traditions alive, and for those who make tourism an opportunity for development.
Furthermore, this year Guanajuato moved up from fifth to fourth place, as with this result, the destination advances one position compared to 2025, when it occupied fifth place.
The 2026 edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards gathered 798,867 votes from readers globally, according to information available about the awards, which also noted that voting concluded on June 30 and the results were announced, as every year, during the first days of October.
This is the 39th edition of the Reader’s Choice Awards, and as has been the case since 1987, when the first survey was conducted, Condé Nast readers vote for their favorite destinations, as well as hotels, resorts, islands, cruises, airlines and airports, under the survey format; highlighting the best in each category.
The results of this specialized survey of travelers, which had as final voting date June 30, 2026, will be in the November print and online edition of Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
The magazine was “established in 1987 and was designed for experienced, discerning and frequent travelers, with a wide variety of travel experiences and information covering frequent flyer programs, art, fashion, architecture, culture, gastronomy and shopping in a variety of destinations around the world,” as described in the editorial of the magazine.
This year, the magazine highlights the attributes that make San Miguel de Allende one of the two World Heritage Cities we have in Guanajuato noted are:
- Its architecture, historical heritage, cultural treasures, gastronomic offer, artistic expressions and accommodation options
For the People’s Government and the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato and Identity (SECTURI), this result represents an opportunity to strengthen the State’s international promotion, expand interest in its cultural and gastronomic experiences, and invite travelers to discover the diversity of its seven tourist regions and its 46 municipalities.
Because through the Guanajuato SUMA strategy, of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, SECTURI promotes actions to expand the opportunities generated by tourism.
