Libia commemorates 216th years of the Taking of the Alhondiga

More than 180 institutions, agencies, municipalities and groups participated in the traditional parade through the streets of Guanajuato City

The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the Civic-Military Parade commemorating the 216th Anniversary of the Taking of the Alhondiga de Granaditas and the Renewal of the Symbolic Flame of Independence.

“It is an honor for me to participate as a woman, as Governor, and as a native of Guanajuato in this significant ceremony of the Renewal of the Symbolic Flame, which also represents our people’s yearning for freedom. From Guanajuato, we continue to renew this commitment to freedom and to build our nation,” said the Governor.

Libia Dennise reaffirmed the commitment to keep alive the ideals of the independence struggle, building a future of reconciliation and freedom.

“Here, where our nation was born, will be the place from which we will continue to promote a Mexico of freedoms, opportunities, and reconciliation. That, for me, is the best way to honor those who, 216 years ago, lit the fire of freedom that continues to illuminate us today,” said the Governor.

The day began with the Civic-Military Parade, its route started at the Garden of Ambassadors and ended at the Palace of the Three Powers; during the journey she was accompanied by her family, as well as by heads and workers of the State agencies.

The parade included more than 180 institutions, groups and representatives, including elementary, middle and high schools; unions, social and sports organizations, service clubs, civil associations and contingents from the municipalities.

The commemoration also brought together members of the State Public Security Forces, Civil Protection, the Red Cross, fire departments, the Emergency System, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard.

Also participating in the parade were giant puppets, artists, mining groups, the Cavalcade along the Route of National Independence, and the Margarito Rocha Charro Association.

The commemoration of this historical event recalls the courage of the insurgents led by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, as well as the heroism of Juan Jose De los Reyes Martinez Amaro, El Pipila, who paved the way for the Independence of Mexico.

Every year, residents of the Capital and tourists gathered to witness this parade, which was first held in 1910 during the Centennial of Independence, and was established as an annual tradition in 1925.

Present at this event were Municipal and State Authorities, as well as civil military, legislative and from the Judiciary.
