Guanajuato strengthens its presence in the North American agro-food market with a trade mission that directly connected 12 producing companies from nine municipalities in the State with 18 international buyers of fresh produce.

From August 10 to 14, COFOCE accompanied Guanajuatense businessmen on a schedule of trade visits and business meetings in McAllen and Pharr, Texas, one of the main distribution corridors of fruits and vegetables to the United States and Canada.

In the first quarter of 2026, Guanajuato registered $10 billion in exports, of which the agro-food sector represented 6.8 percent, equivalent to $704 million between January and March. This sector has 218 exporting companies from 32 municipalities , with an offer that includes fresh, frozen, and processed products, as well as grains, beverages, animal products, and natural byproducts.
This strategy aligns with the vision of the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, to generate more opportunities for Guanajuatense families, strengthen those who produce in the State, and open new paths for their products to reach international markets directly.

During the mission, 11 warehouses and distribution centers were visited, where the business owners learned firsthand about the processes of receiving, storing, and distributing fresh produce. They also identified business opportunities for crops such as broccoli, lettuce, carrots, celery, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and chili peppers.
On August 13, a business meeting was held at the McAllen Convention Center, with the participation of 12 Guanajuatense companies and 18 buyers, in collaboration with CIL Fresh, RioPlex and the City Government of McAllen.

Guanajuatense business owners expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and support of COFOCE in carrying out these business missions and meetings, which allow them to negotiate directly and without intermediaries with potential clients in the United States.
“Thanks so much to COFOCE and the entire organization involved. It was an incredible experience because we were able to connect directly with companies here in McAllen, which is very beneficial for us producers because it allows us to reach third parties. I take away all the experience, as well as all the contacts and new projects that were generated during this experience,” said Jorge Flores, a businessman from Guanajuato.
As a result, participating companies reported projected sales of more than $3.1 million.

In the agro-food sector, these operations are carried out through pre-sale schemes, so some of the results will be reported in the coming months, as the production and delivery of the crops progresses.
The experience also allowed entrepreneurs to learn about the food safety standards, certifications, and logistics processes demanded by the U.S. market.

Guanajuato promotes a stronger and more competitive agricultural sector, and maintains its position as an exporting State of quality agro-food products.
