Guanajuato is strengthening the conditions to consolidate itself as a digital infrastructure hub in Mexico and Latin America, with data center projects that represent a joint investment of 630 million dollars and the generation of 200 direct jobs.
Currently, two data centers are operating in the State, and another is under development. Two of these projects belong to ODATA, a company within the Aligned Data Centers group, and are located in the municipalities of San Miguel de Allende and Apaseo el Grande. The third project is also being developed in San Miguel de Allende.
As part of the infrastructure needed for this type of investment, the construction of a new electrical substation in the San Miguel de Allende Business Park (PESMA) was promoted, with a capacity of 60 MVAs and an investment of more than 45 million dollars.
The Secretary of Economy, Cristina Villasenor, has indicated that the incorporation of Information Technologies, which include data centers, artificial intelligence and semiconductors, as one of the strategic sectors of Guanajuato Suma responds to the transformation that the global economy is undergoing.
The reconfiguration of supply chains and the accelerated adoption of artificial intelligence are altering the competitive landscape between regions. Faced with this scenario, Guanajuato seeks to expand its competitive capacity so that, in addition to its manufacturing strength, it can compete through knowledge, innovation, talent, and the generation of greater added value.
The new economic policy, Guanajuato Suma, gives continuity and structure to the attraction of investment that was already being developed in this sector and formally incorporates it within an economic policy with a long-term vision to 2050.
San Miguel de Allende and the Bajio region have favorable conditions for the long-term development of digital infrastructure, including their strategic location within the country and a growing investment in fiber optic connectivity.
In addition, the energy infrastructure will be strengthened through the new PESMA substation, which will support the growth of high-demand technology projects.
The data centers currently operating in Guanajuato are part of a new generation of digital infrastructure that incorporates, from its design, energy and water efficient technologies, including state-of-the-art cooling systems and treated water reuse schemes.
