Guanajuato maintains a positive performance in international trade. From January to May 2026, the State’s exports reached a value of 14.439 billion dollars, representing a growth of 6.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

This result represented an increase of more than 918 million dollars compared to the 13.52 billion dollars recorded from January to May 2025 and reflects the ability of Guanajuatense companies to maintain their competitiveness.

As part of its strategy to strengthen the export vocation, Guanajuato has the Coordinator for Promotion of Foreign Trade —COFOCE—, a specialized organization that supports companies in their internationalization processes, strengthens their capabilities and links them with buyers and business opportunities in different markets around the world.

In line with Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo’s vision, the People’s Government is promoting a responsive, inclusive economic policy aimed at bringing development to more businesses, municipalities, and families.

From January to May 2026, 1,511 Guanajuatense companies located in 36 municipalities exported 1,741 products to 121 international destinations.

Export activity also shows a significant participation of smaller companies: 79.2 percent of exporting companies are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Of the total number of exporting companies, 36.7 percent are medium-sized; 22.6 percent are small; 19.9 percent are micro-enterprises; and 20.8 percent are large companies.

These figures show that internationalization is not an opportunity exclusive to large companies, but also a growth alternative for SMEs, which generate jobs and strengthen the economy of the municipalities and families of Guanajuato.

Although North America remains the main destination region for Guanajuatense exports, significant growth was also recorded in other markets during the period.

The United States remained the top destination, with $11.68 billion in trade and annual growth of 3.7 percent. Canada ranked second, with $1.626 billion and an increase of 5.9 percent.

The report by COFOCE noted significant increases in export to cpuntries in Latin America and Oceania:

  • Guatemala: $267.8 million, with a growth of 575.6 percent
  • Colombia: $324.4 million, with an increase of 192.1 percent
  • Australia: $34.5 million, an increase of 118.9 percent
  • Brazil: $86.9 million, with an advance of 8.9 percent

The growth of these destinations demonstrates that Guanajuato companies are expanding their international presence and finding new opportunities beyond their traditional markets.

The industrial sector remained the main export engine of Guanajuato, with operations of 12 billion 764 million dollars, equivalent to 88.4 percent of the total, and an annual growth of 4.3 percent.

However, sectors with a large participation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises registered some of the most significant growth during the period:

  • Agro-food: $983.9 million, with a growth of 10.9 percent
  • Fashion: $361.9 million, an increase of 19.3 percent
  • Construction: $285 million, with a growth of 441.9 percent
  • Handicrafts: $44.7 million, an increase of 18.2 percent

These results reflect that Guanajuato’s export growth is not concentrated solely in large industries. Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are also expanding their international presence.

The People’s Government, through COFOCE, maintains close support for companies so that they can start or strengthen their export process, diversify their markets, and take advantage of international trade opportunities.
