General Motors of Silao is the second GM plant in Mexico to operate with solar energy

The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, in her visit to the facilities of the General Motors Complex, inaugurated the new installation of solar panels, which reinforces this company’s commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency and the responsible development of its operations.
It was infortmed that this panel system has an installed capacity of 1,000 kilowatts, which will allow the generation of around 1,960 megawatt-hours of clean energy per year and will reduce approximately 870 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
With this installation, General Motors Silao Complex becomes the second location to have solar panels, after the company’s Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) in Queretaro.
“These projects are a clear example of how at General Motors we are transforming our operations to make them more efficient and responsible in the long term,” said Paco Garza, President and CEO of General Motors Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. “Every kilowatt installed and every ton of CO₂ avoided strengthens our competitiveness and reflects our commitment to a more sustainable future for Mexico.”
The Governor, who was accompanied by the State Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona; and the Secretary of Economy, Cristina Villasenor Aguilar; after holding a work meeting with GM executives, toured the facilities of the Complex, to strengthen the relationship with one of the most important companies for the economic development of Guanajuato.
This visit allowed the Governor to learn firsthand about the American automaker’s innovation, sustainability, and inclusion projects, as well as reaffirm the People’s Government’s commitment to create conditions that will consolidate investment, quality employment, and the state’s competitiveness.
General Motors, one of the world’s leading automotive companies, has maintained operations in Mexico for more than 89 years and has 4 manufacturing complexes, including the one in Silao, which is one of the most strategic due to its production capacity, technological level and export vocation.
In Guanajuato, GM began operations in 1995 and today generates around 8,000 direct jobs. The plant produces approximately 360,000 pickup trucks annually, in addition to state-of-the-art transmissions and engines.
The Governor toured various areas of the Complex, including the new children’s playroom that benefits employees in administrative roles, reflecting the ongoing focus on the well-being of employees and their families.
