In observance of World Tree Day, Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo participated in a reforestation event at the Abasolo Sports Complex, to promote environmental awareness and strengthening citizen participation by taking care of natural resources.

“It is a pleasure to participate in this reforestation effort. Today we are planting 100 trees; this is an effort that must be replicated, not only here in the municipality, but throughout the State and in all of Mexico. These trees will gradually grow and become shade, oxygen, a home for many species, and a more beautiful place for all of you,” said the Governor.

Libia emphasized that this reforestation effort is part of a larger environmental strategy being implemented by the People’s Government, called “Strengthening Forest Ecosystems,” which aims to restore and preserve these areas with the participation of the communities themselves, either voluntarily or through temporary employment.

The Governor highlighted that this year, this program will reforest 240 hectares in six municipalities of the State, with the planting of 150,000 specimens of native species such as mesquite, huizache, oak, palo blanco, nopal and maguey.

The Governor said that reforestation is one of the most effective actions we have to address the effects of climate change. Every tree we plant helps clean the air, regulate temperature, protect the soil, and allow rainwater to filter through and replenish our aquifers.

Libia Dennise pointed out that in the People’s Government “we have a very clear commitment: to protect our environment and take care of the water, which is life for our State.”

The Secretary of Water and Environment, Jose Lara Lona, said that as part of the activities carried out as part of the World Tree Day, 100 trees were planted today of species chosen because they adapt well to the conditions of this region and will help strengthen local biodiversity.

Lara Lona invited people to care for and water these trees; “let’s continue protecting our environment and natural resources.”
