On Artisans Day, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, Roberto Garcia Urbano officially presented the 153rd edition of La Judea, the most iconic and nationally recognized tradition of both the municipality and the State of Guanajuato. This announcement reaffirms a total commitment to preserve the historical legacy inherited from the renowned local artist Hermenegildo Bustos.
The presentation was held at the Hermenegildo Bustos Museum, featuring Municipal and State Authorities, church representatives, the La Judea Commission, and cultural promoters. The event highlighted the unity of society and institutions in strengthening this massive cultural manifestation.
Mayor Roberto Garcia Urbano emphasized that La Judea is an essential part of the cultural and historical heritage of Purisima del Rincon, noting that the local government’s support reflects the true will of the citizens.
Garcia Urbano shared that, according to a survey conducted in January 2026:
- 67% of respondents recognize La Judea as the ultimate representation of the municipality
- 51.9% believe it is the primary element that should be promoted at state, national, and international levels
- 53.5% say that traditions and the cultural patrimony should be priority in the official promotion
“Support for La Judea is not an isolated decision; it is a citizen mandate. Protecting this tradition means protecting the identity, pride, and quality of life of our families,” said the Mayor of Purisima.
A Living Legacy
To further strengthen local identity, the Mayor announced the creation of the La Judea 2026 Historical Registry Book. In this volume, participants and tradition bearers can record their testimonies in their own handwriting, creating a living archive for future generations.
Additionally, a call for entries was announced for the awarding of 70 commemorative Hermenegildo Bustos statuettes. These will be granted to citizens who actively promote the municipality’s identity through digital content.
Fatima del Rosario Aguilera Mata, representing the State Secretary of Culture, highlighted that La Judea is an expression of intangible cultural heritage with over a century of history. Meanwhile, Juan Tavares Torres, President of the Commission, added that nearly 300 participants are already prepared for the 2026 event.
An Invitation to the World
Parish priest Felipe de Jesus Frausto Estrada invited the public to also take part in the Holy Week liturgical events. As La Judea continues to solidify its place as one of Mexico’s most vibrant traditions, the Municipal Government of Purisima del Rincon reaffirms its mission to preserve and share this cultural treasure.
Extending a warm invitation to travelers, the Mayor said that both public and private sectors are fully prepared to welcome visitors and tourists, ensuring a pleasant and memorable stay in the city.
