After presiding over the inauguration ceremony of SAPICA, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, celebrated that the Government of Mexico, through the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrad Casaubon, announced the publication of the Decree to support the National Footwear Industry.

“I am very excited to witness this important announcement of the Decree, because it is one of the issues the footwear industry has most requested,” said Libia Dennise, who reiterated that it is a successful action that seeks to close the door on improper practices that have seriously affected the national footwear industry.

Federal Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrad explained that this decree “means that Mexico will no longer allow the temporary importation of finished footwear products into our country, that practice is over. It means that finished footwear that doesn’t pay taxes can no longer be imported into Mexico.”

The goal is to ensure that the Mexican footwear industry is not placed at disadvantage compared to footwear from other countries, added the Secretary of Economy, who emphasized that this is the result of coordinated efforts with business leaders in this sector and State authorities.

The Governor added that the exclusion of finished footwear from IMMEX (Manufacturing, Maquila and Export Services Industry) is a firm step toward combating smuggling and illegal competition, in addition to strengthening the domestic market and protecting jobs.

It is a measure that restores fairer conditions for national companies to compete, promote innovation, and continue to bring the name of Mexico and Guanajuato to the world.

“This action will protect the industry that creates jobs for Guanajuatenses. Therefore, I celebrate this effort and express my full willingness to continue working with the shoe industry and the various levels of government to continue generating the best conditions for certainty and foster a better Guanajuato, always working together,” said the Governor.

The president of CICEG, Juan Carlos Cashat Usabiaga, also welcomed the announcement of this federal decree, which protects the jobs of thousands of Guanajuatense families who make a living from this industry.
