A downward trend in high-impact crimes is consolidating, thanks to the leadership of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo and the collaborative efforts of the State, Federal, and Municipal governments, as well as the active participation of citizens

As a result of the comprehensive security strategy, Operational Coordination of the New Anti-Crime Intelligence Force (CONFIA), implemented since the beginning of the current State Administration, Guanajuato has recorded its lowest monthly number of intentional homicides in the last eight years.
Thanks to the leadership of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo and the collaborative work of State, Federal, and Municipal institutions, as well as the active participation of citizens, a downward trend in high-impact crimes is consolidating.
During July 2025, 155 intentional homicides were recorded, according to preliminary data from the National Security Board. This figure places the State in second place nationwide for the lowest number of cases in the month, behind Sinaloa, which reported 174 homicides.
Furthermore, the daily average dropped to 5 homicides per day, a 46.8% decrease compared to September 2024, when 9.4 cases were recorded daily. Also, in terms of the rate per 100,000 inhabitants, Guanajuato now ranks eighth nationally, moving away from the top spots it held for years in terms of fatal incidence.
In the preliminary cumulative total from January to July 2025, 1,505 intentional homicides were recorded, a 17.4% reduction compared to the same period in 2024, when 1,803 cases were recorded. This cumulative total is also the lowest for a January-July period in eight years.
The result, say State Security Officials, reflects a security approach based on intelligence, research, regionalized tactical presence, attention to root causes, combating organized crime, and institutional strengthening, under the CONFIA strategy.
The Secretary of Security and Peace of the State of Guanajuato reiterates that progress in security is possible when Government and society work together. Citizen collaboration is key to building safe communities, and therefore they encourage civilians to continue using the anonymous reporting line 089 as a safe and confidential channel.
