“Today we tell Guanajuato families to be sure that we will not let our guard down in the fight against crime, which is why we are strengthening the municipal police forces in our State”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.

Libia Dennise led the ceremony to deliver equipment to strengthen Public Security for the benefit of peace and tranquility for the Guanajuatenses.

The gear provided is:

  • For police corps from 42 municipalities
  • An investment of 243 million 700 thousand 863 pesos from 3 Funds
  • Police corps received 165 units, supplies, portable Tetra radios and ballistic helmets, body-cams, ballistic vests, shields and anti-riot equipment

The Governor said that this is support that goes directly to the municipalities, so that local police can go around the neighborhoods and communities, to be there, where they are needed; so that they are better equipped and prepared to serve in an efficient and timely manner.

“Our CONFIA Security strategy is comprehensive, and that means it includes the teamwork that we have to do at all three levels of government and a great joint effort with society. And for this reason, as a State Government, our commitment is to continue supporting municipalities with resources to improve their equipment and training,” said Libia.

The Governor noted that in these first months of the new CONFIA strategy, there was a reduction in intentional homicides of more than 19%, and a reduction of just over 54% in robberies of federal transport on the highways of Guanajuato.

“I invite you to form a common front for the security of Guanajuato and its municipalities. Today is the time to be more united than ever. To trust and be hopeful. To build peace and calm in our State,” said Libia.

The Secretary of Security and Peace, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, said that CONFIA is not just a security strategy, but a call to close ranks with the citizens to work for the tranquility and peace of the people of Guanajuato.

“The delivery of this equipment strengthens municipal police officers in their task of preventing and combating crime. We will not take a step back in this work,” Gonzalez Martinez said.

During the reinstallation of the State Public Security Council, chaired by Governor Libia Dennise, with the participation of Mayors of Guanajuato, State and Federal security authorities and representatives of civil society, Libia stressed that citizen participation is essential for security, from its observation to its evaluation, so that it can be consolidated.

Libia noted the ongoing dialogue with the Federation to strengthen public security institutions in states and municipalities.

“There is coordination at the highest level to be able to work on those generators of violence, not only in daily operations, but also in permanent patrols and in closeness to citizens,” said the Governor.

Security, said Libia, should not be politicized because it is the responsibility of governments and each one must propose actions in states and municipalities; Libia called for citizen participation to evaluate the strategies implemented and achieve satisfactory results.

The Secretary of Security and Peace, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, shared the results that the CONFIA Strategy has achieved in Guanajuato, since its implementation on November 4.

Among the results, there was a nearly 55% decrease in cargo thefts on Guanajuato highways, from 188 cases in October to 85 in November.

Juan Mauro said that the Anti-Extortion Squad has carried out more than 50 interventions and prevented the delivery of more than 4 million pesos to criminals, protecting the assets of the people of Guanajuato.

The Strategy also reports progress in reducing intentional homicides by 20% from September to November, compared to the same period last year, according to figures from the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System.

In Leon, a 40% decrease in this crime was observed between October 1 and November 16, compared to 2023.
