IECA trains artisans to manage their companies

In actions with SDES and COFOCE, IECA works to help artisans have better companies

New learning of management and tools are taught to artisans

Rescuing the craft of Guanajuatense artisans by receiving training in the management of their products, implementing innovation, providing them with digital tools so that they can trade not only in Mexico, but in other countries, are some of the main objectives of the State Training Institute -IECA-, the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development and the Coordinator of the Promotion of Foreign Trade -COFOCE-.

Through the program called Galilea, which began its first stage this year, artisans were professionalized in:

• Ceramics, wood carving, metalwork, goldsmithing and textiles

The goal is that artisans can improve their products through learning in digital marketing, innovation and packaging, in order to provide them with information for adequate packaging of their products, handling and sale.

After concluding this first stage, 60 artisans from Apaseo el Alto, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, Leon, Coroneo and Guanajuato received their training certificate from Juan Carlos Lopez Rodriguez, General Director of IECA; Maria del Carmen Micalco Mendez, Operations Coordinator and Officials of the program, as well as State and Municipal authorities.

“Certification is a very important document because many times the artisan learned what he knows from the teachings of his parents and grandparents, but he does not have a document that endorses his skills,” said Micalco Mendez.

Mendez said that the second stage of this program that will be held in 2024, will focus on the order of production, how to generate quality control and cost, that is, how much the creation that an artisan makes is really worth and put a fair price on it to make the business profitable.

“Because many artisan companies are family-owned and that is why we are going to give a course on how to manage these companies so that they have the desired success, as well as look for actions that allow production to be organized,” said the IECA Operations Coordinator.

Mendez called on the artisans of Guanajuato to come to IECA and join the learning of these courses that are free and rescue this work done by artists, who put their time, vision, hands and heart.
