The FIA World Rally Championship returns to Guanajuato from March 16 to 19. This year, top-level riders are going to travel a 316-kilometer route of roads in León, Silao, Guanajuato and, for the first time Romita joins the map of this great sports tourism event.
Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, representing Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, Governor of Guanajuato, with Gilles Spitalier, director of the Guanajuato Mexico Rally; Juan Suberville Tron, president of the Organizing Committee; Nathalie Moutet, secretary of OMDAI Sport Mexico; Juan Aguilera Cid, director of TV4 Guanajuato; as well as mayors and municipal representatives of these 4 cities presented details of the Rally in Mexico City.
“The Rally is back in Guanajuato, although it never really left; external circumstances made it have a pause, but the WRC has always been present in the organizers, in the municipalities and in Guanajuato, and causes us great enthusiasm”, said the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato.
After 2 years of absence, Rally Guanajuato México returns to the Capital of Rallying in North America: The State of Guanajuato, to celebrate the 19th edition with a forecast of 577 thousand spectators, who follow this sporting experience of seeing experienced national and international drivers together with their crews traveling at full speed the roads and the mountains of Guanajuato.
“On this event, SECTUR, through the Guanajuato State Tourism Observatory, forecasts an economic benefit of 573 million pesos and an average hotel occupancy of 68% with 25,508 occupied rooms,” said Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel.
“On this 2023, the Rally achieved a ‘very competitive’ calendar. In these years that we were away there were many changes, among them, the 550-horsepower hybrid cars, which is a new challenge for the drivers, and which demand greater safety”, noted Gilles Spitalier.
The director of the Rally Guanajuato México said that the championship “has diversified, has been strengthened, and in the near future we will see top-level WRC2 drivers coming to compete in Mexico; also, this year we expect 5 Mexican pilots competing in this same category; we will also have young drivers competing in Rally 5”, said Spitalier.
Guanajuato is ready for the World Championship Rally. As it has traditionally been, Guanajuato is due to be the third date of the WRC, after Monte Carlo and Sweden, where more than 35 cars are expected to register in different categories.
The route, as it has traditionally been, covers the municipalities of Guanajuato, Silao and Leon and the service area will be in the facilities of the Leon Mx District. The Rally will begin with the “Monday Test”, an event where the WRC2 cars and others are tuned up, and which will take place on March 13 in Romita.
As one of the main attractions, the organizing committee added the stage of the Dunes, in Leon, where it will be possible to appreciate a route of more than 3 kilometers in an area adapted to experience the rally closer to the city.
The traditional Brinco de Silao will continue to take place on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19, where thousands of spectators are expected to arrive; and Rock and Rally also returns in full force to the WRC, with Panteon Rococo being the group that will headline the concert on Saturday, March 18 at the Velaria in the Leon Mx District.
For Guanajuato, the organizing committee of the Rally Guanajuato Mexico, and for the FIA, the issue of the environment is important.
SECTUR has worked with the municipalities and with Rally Mex on issues of sustainability and carbon footprints. Also, all FIA world championships by 2025 must have a 3-star environmental excellence accreditation. And, the Guanajuato Mexico Rally already has 2 stars of excellence and plans to take more care of the environment; however, the support of all spectators is necessary to keep the spaces clean.
Rally Guanajuato México promises a great party, which will be broadcast on television in more than 180 countries around the world with daily summaries, live stages and news highlights.
For Mexico, TV4 -in alliance with Rally Television and Fox Sport- will be the television station in charge of bringing all the details of the WRC to the screens in Mexico, as well as all the calendar dates.
