SSG started anti-influenza, Covid 19 and pneumococcal vaccination for the 2024-2025 winter season

Leon/Gto News

In the vicinity of the Expiatory Temple of Leon, the State campaign for the 2024-2025 winter season was launched.

In the 46 municipalities of Guanajuato, 1.7 million doses of a vaccination against influenza will be administered this season, focused mainly on risk groups, 100 thousand doses of Covid 19 and another 100 thousand of pneumococcus.

Gabriel Cortes Alcala, Secretary of Health, witnessed the first doses to vulnerable groups, calling on the population to go to the nearest health unit to request the doses.

“One of the pillars of public health today is definitely vaccination, and doing so from the moment we are born is the first opportunity for life that we can give to a person who is seeing the light of day for the first time in their life”, said the Secretary.

The slogan of this campaign is: “For your well-being and that of your family, get vaccinated!” and its purpose is to prevent diseases such as influenza and Covid 19 during the cold season.

The campaign is specially against severe forms of these illnesses since when a person does not receive these immunizations, they may experience serious complications such as pneumonia, respiratory difficulty, severe lung disease, and heart damage.

In addition, this winter season begins with the application of doses of pneumococcus and 13-valent.

Cortes Alcala pointed out that getting vaccinated should be a constant activity and this right should not be limited, since vaccination is one of the pillars of public health.

All health sector institutions in Guanajuato are participating in this campaign, so the vaccines are free and will be administered to IMSS members and non-members, that is, to the entire Mexican population that requests it.

The groups that present a higher risk of complications are:

  • Older adults, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women, and people with comorbidities or immunosuppressed people

In greater risk are also people with factors such as:

  • Obesity, diabetes, heart problems, HIV/AIDS, asthma, cancer, kidney failure, as well as health personnel

As part of the constant updating and improvement of the Universal Vaccination Program, for the 2024-2025 winter season, the tetravalent vaccine will be used in all institutions that are part of the Health Sector; an inactivated formulation that contains two type A viruses and two types of B.
