Water is a human right, said Ale Gutierrez, the Mayor Elect of Leon as she talked to reporters after the press conference on the statement by the Mexican President on Saturday about excluding Leon from the water to be collected at the El Zapotillo dam in Jalisco.
The legal and technical part
“The issue here is not if water is for Guadalajara or for Leon, water is for both. The question here is what future we want for both States and how we are going to work together, because the project (of El Zapotillo) meant that there would be water for both States… we only need to talk and check on the legal and technical part and it should be clear, water is a human right”, insisted Ale Gutierrez.
What the President meant
“We can not speculate on what we are going to do or not, we don’t know exactly what the President means or what he meant on Saturday as he said that the water from El Zapotillo will not be for Leon”, said Mayor Elect.
Ale Gutierrez was at the press conference where the Governor, the Mayor of Leon, and State and Local water administration Officials talked about the project of El Zapotillo.
The future of Leon includes water
Ale said that her government is based on a work plan with the goal of building the future that all Leoneses want for the City “and we all know that there are many posible futures but in each of them we need water. That is why it is important to know what the President of Mexico means with his statement that ‘water is only for Guadalajara’, he must also say what is going to happen with Leon and 14 other municipalities from the Los Altos area in Jalisco that were going to be benefitted with the aqueduct Los Altos-Leon and which now will not be, he should be clear”.
“We will have our doors open to dialogue not only as the Mayor of Leon but also as the national coordinator of Mayors of PAN (the political party of Gutierrez)”
