Water infrastructure and financing ensure crops

Farmers of the Irrigation District 011 of Guanajuato are informed about the financing program and opportunities offered by Tu puedes Guanajuato

Irrigation District 011 in Guanajuato, is a key component of regional agricultural development. Covering more than 112,000 hectares and directly supporting 24,000 users, its operation contributes significantly to food security and rural sustainability.

Ivon Padilla Hernandez, General Director of the Tu Puedes Guanajuato Finance and Support Fund, met with the leaders of the various modules to discuss the financing schemes the People’s Government has for the affordable purchase of machinery and other supplies.

“Along with this water infrastructure, access to financing schemes strengthens the productive capacity of those who work the land,” said Padilla.

“With strategic support, accessible credit, and programs to boost agricultural modernization, producers can invest in technological improvements, crop diversification, and sustainable practices,” said the Official.

She said that this district not only represents a vital source of water for agricultural irrigation, but also strategically manages three key dams: Solis, Purisima, and Laguna de Yuriria.

These bodies of water supply countless users across 10 municipalities in Guanajuato, whose work ensures the continued growth of high-value crops under technologically advanced irrigation systems.

Agustin Robles Montenegro, President of Irrigation District 011 of the Alto Rio Lerma, said that this financial boost designed by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo to help more producers in Guanajuato get ahead was timely and effective.

“The two points about the 500,000 pesos they can lend to a farmer for their tractor and to purchase supplies for their crops seem magnificent to me, especially the interest,” said Robles.

Agustin added that the synergy between water and credit not only helps sustain productivity in the short term, but also lays the foundation for more equitable, resilient, and inclusive agricultural development.

Thanks to this dual strategy, thousands of farming families can plan with trust, access new markets, and build a more solid future from their plots of land.

Marisol Suarez Correa, Secretary of the Rural Sector in Guanajuato, said that the commitment to strengthening Irrigation District 011 reaffirms Guanajuato’s commitment to the rural sector and its people.

“You get very good interest rates, and the ease of use, too, because when you go to the bank, they even ask for a death certificate to give you a loan. Sometimes, if you don’t have a credit history, they even ask for a guarantor of 3 to 1, things like that,” she said. 

Suarez Correa said that a responsible water management, combined with accessible financing, is the key to keeping Guanajuato’s farmlands alive today.
