Guanajuato’s talent made its mark on the international electromobility stage by winning the ACE RACE–Alamo City Electrathon 2026, held in Texas, USA. In this competition, university teams from UPG and TecNM Celaya came out as winners and benchmarks of innovation.
The E-UPG Motors team from the Polytechnic University of Guanajuato was crowned overall champion of the competition, surpassing 33 teams from Mexico and the United States in a demanding endurance race that rewards energy efficiency.
Meanwhile, the MoviTec team from the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Celaya Campus, received the 2026 Creative Engineering Award, an international recognition that distinguishes creativity, inventiveness and innovation in the design of technological solutions.
E-UPG Motors’ victory not only placed them at the top of the podium, but also earned them the prestigious Bob Franz Award for Design & Innovation, solidifying their position as the best overall project of the competition.
The team E-UPG Motors with members Alejandra de los Angeles Guzman Patino, Luis Felipe Hernandez Mendoza, Froilan Marquez Osorio and Pedro Arturo Sierra Mondragon, all ccorniated by Professor Vignaud Granados Alejo, stood out for the performance of their Blue Runner vehicle, developed from scratch and optimized to achieve maximum energy efficiency during the competition.
The MoviTec team reaffirmed its high competitive level by obtaining an international recognition that rewards creativity and innovation in engineering, standing out among teams from both countries.
The Alamo City Electrathon (ACE) Race 2026, held in San Antonio, Texas, is one of the most important competitions in electromobility, where teams must maximize the use of energy in electric vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries to complete the most laps in one hour.
The E-UPG Motors championship is the result of a continuous development process that began two years ago in Cortazar, perfected through strategy, innovation, and adaptability on the track. This achievement, coupled with the recognition received by MoviTec, positions Guanajuato as a breeding ground for talent in engineering applied to sustainable mobility.
Beyond the awards, the participation of both teams reflects the strengthening of technological education in Guanajuato and its connection to the global challenges of the automotive industry.
Today, Guanajuato not only competes internationally: it wins, innovates, and sets the course toward a cleaner and more efficient energy future.
