This year, the Opening celebrates 10 years as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Guanajuato

The people of the capital celebrated once again their traditional ‘La Olla Dam Opening Festival’, the ceremony was headed by the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Governor was with the Mayor of Guanajuato and other State and City Officials, the Governor waved the white handkerchief for the gates to be opened at one o’clock in the afternoon and hence welcomed the rainy season.
The Guanajuato State Music Band, directed by Maestro Adalberto de Jesus Tovar Gomez, performed the waltz ‘Sobre Las Olas’ by Juventino Rosas, a Guanajuatense, while the breeze of the waterfall reached the face of the attendees.
After the traditional opening, those present enjoyed the also traditional popular festival and an afternoon of fun and family life in the surroundings of the La Olla Dam with the stands and mechanical games.
The Governor spent time with the Guanajuatenses and shared their traditions where many of the attendees took photos with the Governor and shared snacks such as churros, seeds and the traditional “macaws” of the State Capital.
The Opening of the La Olla Dam started in the Seventeenth Century and year after year, it has been observed, until it is part of the local traditions.
On June 24, 2013, it was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Guanajuato, as well as the festival of San Ignacio de Loyola, patron of the City, on July 31.
