The quince season starts in Jalpa de Canovas

The Magic Town and Best Tourist Village of Purisima del Rincon will receive thousands of visitors in the gastronomic and cultural festival of the 7^th Fair of the Walnut and Quince

Again like every year, Jalpa de Canovas, Magic Town and a recognized Best Tourist Village, has started the traditional quince season, an emblematic fruit of the region and base of the typical candy of the place: the quince ate (membrillo).

During July and August, the local orchards go into full harvest collecting this fruit that embodies one of the most representative gastronomic traditions of this place and Jalpa de Canovas celebrates it with the 7^th Fair of the Walnut and Quince.

The quince and particularly the artisanal ate, has been elaborated for generations of Jalpense families, that sell the product both locally and in all of Guanajuato and all of Mexico.

During this season it is common to find in the road entrances to this Magic Town different family stands where the quince elaborated products are offered, as well as walnuts, another typical product of Jalpa de Canovas.

Some producers have innovated with special presentations of the candy, like ate with chamoy, with walnut, and even versions made for people with diabetes, maintaining the artisanal essence.

The quince ate can be enjoyed in many ways: with cheese, as stuffing of traditional bread, or even in the famous Don Tono ice cream, becoming a part of many local gastronomic creations.

Thanks to this tradition the most important gastronomic event was born in Jalpa de Canovas: the Walnut and Quince Fair, which in 2025 celebrates its seventh edition.

The event will be held on August 24^th, starting at 10 am in the Main Square of Jalpa de Canovas, offering products made of quince and walnut, as well as live music, local and regional gastronomy, workshops and activities for all the family.

Roberto Camargo, director of Tourism, informed that coordinated work has been done with producers to promote their products with their values and identity of the product.

Camargo said that by instructions of Mayor, Roberto Garcia Urbano, a greater innovation and promotion of the Jalpense quince is broadcast, so that more families of the Magic Town are benefited with the arrival of visitors and the spending in the events.
